Reading is fundamental and Duke Energy teamed up for a project to help prevent the summer slide with second graders at McBee Elementary. They donated 8 books for each second grader to choose and keep at home. Thank you Duke Energy and Reading is Fundamental for helping us get books in the hands of our readers! Representatives from Duke Energy came to help students while they shopped for books. Once each child chose their books, they were given a backpack with information about the program, a bookmark, a pencil, an activity booklet, and a flashlight.
In the pictures, you will notice some Play-Doh balls and Oreo cookies. These were part of an activity based on a Read-A-Loud they listened to about the moon. This book was among a box of read-aloud books that were donated to each second grade classroom. The Play-Doh were "moon rocks" and their Oreo creations represented phases of the moon.
